Pieced Leaf

Or else that is what I am calling this one..This is the largest quilt I have ever made from the ground up. 360 half square triangle blocks about drove me crazy piecing, pressing and squaring them to size...I am glad it is finished! I really enjoyed the quilting process though... Just low end custom..Nothing too fancy...Just keeping with the leaf designs...

Pop's Ties

This is a quilt me and my friend Marie made for a client to give to her daughter for her birthday. I love the way it finished up! The client was happy with it and so was her daughter!

My Friend Lisa

Lisa is one of the 70 ladies who attended the quilters retreat with me last weekend! She and I both collect pigs so I gave her my challenge piece to take home with her.

Each member of the retreat was given a FQ of a fabric with cows on it and we had to make something with it for the challenge. You could only use that one FQ of the challenge fabric but we could use other fabrics with it. I had purchased the ticking fabric w/ pigs on it back in the 80's from Dollar General when they sold flat folded fabric and it was perfect for my idea. I made a cow and used the FQ for his slicker (like the cowboys wore years ago, draped over the horses butts to keep them warm too) except this cow was riding my pig and the slicker was keeping the pigs butt warm. I made a sign that said "New Hampshire or Bust!" and hung it from the pigs tail!

Making that sign brought back memories for me when I was a cheerleader in high school. Our sponsor signed us up for a cheerleader camp in Birmingham at the University and we all packed in to her station wagon. We took shoe polish and wrote "Birmingham or Bust" on the back window. Well, we busted!!! We had to sit in a service station for about 3 hours before finally being brought a rental van so we could finish our trip to the college campus!

Thank goodness, Karen and I did not bust on our way to the quilters retreat! :) LOL

My newest pigs!!

While at the quilters retreat in New Hampshire I was surprised with several pig related giftees...I would love to share those photos with you!

I was met in the front lobby with the first gift! This has to be the most darling pig I have seen in a long time! A Pig in a pea-pod race car!!! I loved it the moment I took it out of the box!! Thank you so much!!

The next pig you will see was my thank you gift from the committee for doing the trunk show of my quilting. I have actually been threatening to buy this Jim Shore piece for some time but never did. Now I dont have to! Thank you ladies! I love him!!

We took a bus trip over to Keepsake Quilting on Saturday morning of the retreat! I have always wanted to go to this shop so I jumped at the chance when they took sign ups! I found this fabric in their shop. Although I usually only want pigs on my fabric, this all over farm animal toile fabric spoke to me. So I had to have it! 3 yards and 3 yards of the coordinating check. I also ordered 3 yards of the ticking stripe that matches too. I have to wait for that one to come in the mail. I half expected it to beat me home. Hopefully it will come today...I will update with a photo of it once it comes.

I also found this sweet little pig needle minder while at Keepsake Quilting and he HAD to come home with me! Isn't he darling!

On the day we adjourned from the retreat I got a call from one of my friends wanting me to meet her and some others in the lobby of the hotel. She told me that they had me something. When I got there they all presented me with this antique mother of pearl pin! Oh my goodness!! I absolutely loved it!! I love mother of pearl and my love for pigs on top of it made this an awesome gift!! Thank you so much ladies!!

I also received a few other piggie gifts during the course of the retreat! The little plush pig has a battery operated source inside of him and I really wish you could hear him! he will make you laugh your socks off!! I let my sister listen to him over the phone this morning and she got her kick for the morning! The pig postcard is so fun and has plump little cheeks...and the porcelain piggie is actually a coin bank! I can fill it full to save for the 2011 retreat!!

A Quilters Retreat!!!

What do you get when you mix 4 days of non-sleep, laughter, excitement, and 70 women?? A quilters retreat of a lifetime!!!

I am a member of the HGTV Quilting and Needlework Forum and this past weekend was the 2009 Circle Of Friends Retreat in Manchester, NH!! A friend from Guthrie, OK flew into Raleigh, NC to drive up with me for the retreat! I do not fly and would not have gone if she had not done this for me!! THANK YOU KAREN!!!!

Karen, Elizabeth and myself were roommates! I teased them to no end about their snoring but we all had a wonderful time together! Elizabeth got well versed in southern humor...I called her Lucy a lot! She would just giggle. LOL

It was a great pleasure getting to meet everyone and seeing all of the show and tell!! The committee did an absolute marvelous job of putting everything in motion!! The meals were delicious from the Mexican dishes, chicken parmesan, lasagne, turkey with mashed potatoes, veggies, salads and desserts! We did not go hungry!!

I finally learned how to paper piece, thanks to my friend Shey!! I had only tried once to make a 4 inch turkey block and it came out so wonky that I threw it in the garbage can and put away the book! With Sheys guidance I figured out what I did wrong and now I will get that book back out! neener, neener!!

I was so glad to get to finally meet everyone but the following ladies have been a special part of my life and I loved being able to give them a hug for the first time! Bingo-Bonnie (she kept after me and after me to start a blog! Thank you Bonnie) Shawkl (she is from my home state of Alabama and does beautiful crazy quilting!) ToryAM (she lives in Alabama's neighboring state of Mississippi and has been in several of my swaps...and is VERY patient with me! love you my friend! and thank you for teaching me how to eat a lobster! LOL) Needlecrazy (she and I worked a fundraiser together to raise money for the Hurricane Ike victims and we have been friends for quiet a while on the forum) DecPainter (she is such an inspiration! and her cute little voice is stuck in my head..hehehe..) McPatches (she sends me Flying Pig giftees, even gave me a t-shirt at the retreat! Love you girl!) IowaLisa (she and I both collect pigs so I gifted her with my FQ challenge project...she cried..and that made me feel very special!) Everythingquilts (who I love to have in my Dotee Doll swaps!) Expatquilter (I could sit and listen to your Irish voice all day!) Bluesnail (I will cherish my blonde headed ballerina forever!) and last but certainly not least is my friend Talia (the one who can make you smile even when you are too tired to do so and who better not block me from Facebook! :P )

AND Quiltingnewbie!!! I made a wonderful friend whom I will always remember!! This lady is such a sweet treasure!! I love you my friend!! (and yes, I will always remember that you are not Auntie Reba...LOL ) I bought you something on my way home! :)

And being able to hug Nickilee, Ely, Charmingsister, Terrimae, and Auntie Reba again was really great! I had met them a year and a half before when my hubby and I made a trip to Boston. Now I am waiting for a visit from Nicki to our home! yep, yep... :)

And my Sassy!! Who couldn't love Sassyneedlepusher! Your room is ready when your niece graduates!! and your pickles will be ready too!

As you can see I have only named less than half of these wild, wacky, wonderful women!!! ALL 70 made my weekend very enjoyable to say the least!!! I have memories that will last a lifetime and am so grateful that I was able to attend! I will be hosting the retreat in 2011 and hope to see all 70 of these ladies again and newbies who I havent met before!

Below are a few retreat photos...I will not label them in case someone would not want me too.. Hope you enjoy them!
