Over on the HGTV Quilting and Needlework Forum we are always having a great time!! Our board member SavedSinnr is putting together a BOM for us this year. She has little giveaways throughout the BOM that makes it that much more fun! She gives guesses to the next months block and you have the chance to guess and if you are right, you could win a prize!

Hop on over to HGTV and see what all is going on. This link will take you directly to the thread about the BOM. You will have to register (it's free) to be able to see photos or post a comment.

This is my January block and a photo of the fabrics I am using! The fabric line is Surf & Sand by Marcus Brothers!

A Productive Day!

And it feels good!!

We had a good snow storm here last night and today! I love a good snow and it really is refreshing to see all this white stuff outside. It makes me happy!

When the meteorologist said we would get a lot of accumulation, I promised myself to work in my sewing room all day! And that I did!

From the previous 2 posts, you can see I started and completed 2 projects for the day! YAY! me!!

I made a pot of chicken stew in the crock pot, put a banana pudding in the refrigerator early this morning and went upstairs around 8:30! I even took in a movie on television with hubby tonight! can't leave him out!

Here are a few photos of our beautiful snow! The weather man called for 10-15 inches and as you can see we only got 5 inches! bummer...The area in which we live always gets the short end of the stick whether it be rain or snow. It is like we sit in a vacuum. Oh well, we will take what we can get and be content with that.

Tomorrow calls for cleaning the house and doing some crazy quilting!

Mini Quilt for OPAM!!

I went upstairs after lunch and put this together and quilted it on my longarm. I bound it while watching a movie with my hubby. Now it is ready to go to Utah to its new owner!

Another January Finish!

I went upstairs this morning since we are snowed in and I made this pair of pillowcases! My friend Elaine did a tutorial on these last night on the HGTV Quilting and Needlework Forum and I had to make a pair! I remember doing these in 8th grade Home Economics class but I have not done any since.

I remember making my mother several pair from satin fabric! She loved to sleep on them because it helped her beauty shop hair-do last a few days longer. :)

Off The Frame!

This pretty round robin is on its way home to Texas! I helped with a Hurricane Ike fundraiser and this is one of the quilts I agreed to quilt and have the funds sent to the victims of the hurricane. I used a pantograph which had flowers and bunny rabbits on it. It turned out really pretty! Hope she likes it!

GiveAway Time!!!

If my dad had not gone to Heaven 40 years ago come Feb 19th, he would have celebrated his birthday a day earlier this year! He was born on Feb 29th, leap year!!

So in honor of my dad's memory, I am having a giveaway for the month of February! I know what I am going to give away but it is a secret! I actually have to make it so I dont have a photo!

So who is game for signing up to win something sight unseen?

I will tell you this much...It pertains to a gospel hymn.

I will draw for a winner on Feb 28th! So get signed up and go and tell your friends to come over for a visit too!

This is my mom and dad in their senior photos! My 2 girls and I all graduated from the same high school! I also meant to add that my dad's mom went to the same school too but she didn't get to graduate.

Allie's Apron

Allie got her apron and I received photos so I could share my grandbabies with my readers. Allie had been playing in hers so it is a little wrinkled. I think I may widen the next apron I make by about 4 inches. It looks a tad narrow but it could be the way she has it tied.

My grandson had gone to a birthday party earlier in the month and the birthday boys mommy had made the children aprons and allowed them to make cupcakes. So Parker had to have his picture made too showing his apron.

I think I need to make him one that fits a lot better. :)

I sure wish I lived closer to Alabama so I could spend time with them like I would like to.

Another Finish for January!

OK..I did a do-over...

This time the pockets that hold the crayons are just right!

I also used different fabrics...

Yogi bear on front..

baseball fabric inside...

and the pouch that holds the coloring book is a "Remember me" fabric for our soldiers...This is to teach him to be thankful to our men and women who keep us safe and allow us to have the freedom to lay in the floor and color.

OPAM January Finish!

My youngest daughters friend hired me to make a memory quilt using her grandparents clothing. I was unsure of which pattern to use but settled on the Shoo-Fly. I thought it was very fitting as most of our grandmothers used this pattern a lot in their quilt making. I started quilting this in December and finally got it off the frame. It is now bound and completed! And my daughters friend cried when it was presented to her!

YAY! I Am Ahead Of The Game!

Well, I joined the OPAM Challenge and I have 2 projects that I made ready to show for my efforts!

My granddaughter who is 6, has taken an interest in helping her mommy cook. So I whipped her up an apron this morning. I saw a tutorial on the Missouri Star Quilt Co. website yesterday and got inspired to make one for Allie. The finishing touch was her initial appliqued to the bib!! Doesn't it look all 50's retro!!

Of course, I cannot leave my 2 year old grandson out of the loop. He has taken an interest in cooking too so his mom and dad got him a kitchenette for Christmas. He already has an apron that he got as a birthday party favor a few weeks ago so I made him this coloring book tote. I made this by the seat of my pants and didn't think it through far enough. I made the tubes for the crayons too tall. Oh well, granny made it so I am hoping that is all that matters. I may make him a new and improved version for his birthday in March.

Excellent Reading!

Do you love awesome love stories? Me and my hubby do! We are saps for any great love story, be it in a book, on television or at the movies! We have sat through Cold Mountain at least half a dozen times. I think the reason I watch it so many times is that I am hoping the ending will change eventually. (I hated the ending). We have also watched Pride and Prejudice at least a half dozen times as well! I love the ending to this love story!

In 2003 hubby and I were married and lived with his parents while our house was being built. His mom had her tv room and so did his dad so hubby and I spent the larger part of our time in our private quarters. The only thing was we had no tv. So, we read...and read...and read!

The first series of novels we read were Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. I never in my life thought I would ever read a book with 900 pages in it, let alone 5.... and in as little as 6 months time! I have yet to read the last 2 but plan to do that this winter! However I might just start back over with The Outlander and read them all again. It was a good while before the sixth novel, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, was released from the time we finished The Fiery Cross so I would like to reaquaint myself with the first novels once again. And they are like Cold Mountain and Pride and Prejudice...I would never tire of reading them!

I give these novels 5 GOLD ***** !! If you have never read them, you need to!

The second series hubby and I read was this Robin Hood trilogy! It is fantastic reading and the author is great at capturing her audience! I never thought I would enjoy reading material of this type until I read this trilogy! After the first few pages into the book, I was spell bound and did not want to put it down until I had read it all the way through!

Another 5 GOLD *****!!

Another novel we read was one of the King Arthur trilogies! This series was absolutely FANTASTIC!! I sat mesermized through all 3 books!! I have to admit here that you have to be very careful of the author you choose in reading this love story! I took the time to speed read several pages in 3 different novels of King Arthur, all written by different authors. Rosalind Miles was the best at portraying the love story on a level that I could read and not get lost out in left field on. Some of the authors way of portraying the love story takes a lot of the excitement away from it. Some of them are very hard to read. If you want to read a King Arthur trilogy, please choose the one I read! I give it 5 GOLD *****!!

Guenevere, King Arthur, and Sir Lancelot are a wonderful love triangle! And who gets the girl?...I'll never tell! You must read it for yourself!

We have also read The Lovely Bones! This is not a love story but a murder mystery. A young child is taken from her family and it is she who is talking to you in the book. This month finds the movie on the big screen! YAY!! Hubby and I plan to go see it!

Our next great read is the continuation of the Pride and Prejudice love story!! I have not read the first original book but as I said, we have watched the movie 6 times!! This trilogy takes you through their wedding, the starting of their lives together and into starting a family!

I cannot wait to read these books! I think I will read them before I start reading the Outlander series again only because it will take some time to read all 7 of those novels!

Blog Winnings!

The Quilt Shoppe had a wonderful Bingo game on their blog, In Stitches , during the holidays! I was one of the lucky daily winners of this pattern! It looks like a fun quilt to make and I have the perfect recipient for it! But, it will be a while before I can whip it up as other projects are ahead of the game. :)

Thank you to the staff of The Quilt Shoppe for a super duper Bingo game during the holidays! and thank you for my prize!

In With The New -- But Keep The Old Too!

2009 was the year for me to learn all I could about Crazy Quilting! I had never given it much thought until my friend Nicki hosted a CQ swap on the HGTV Quilting and Needlework Forum. Well, several months later, I am hooked...line and sinker!! I really enjoy the process of Crazy Quilting...from choosing the fabrics, to piecing the block, to deciding on how I will embellish the block. My favorite embellishment are the button clusters! I really love them and try to do one on each block that I do. If I am in a round robin and a block comes to me with a button cluster already on it I always say "SHOOT", because I wanted to do one!!

2010 is going to be the year I try my hand at learning to actually knit something other than your regular afghan! I want to learn to do baby layettes, caps to go with scarves, house shoes...the list is endless...I also want to be able to make afghans using something other than the normal knit stitch. I have bought myself a book and hopefully by the end of the year I will be able to show something to you for my efforts.

Wish me luck!
