Red White and Blue Blog Hop - It Is My Day!

I am always excited to take part in Madame Samm's blogging adventures!
And this time around she has Jane as her co-pilot!
They make an awesome team!

This is the Celebrate Red White and Blue Blog Hop and it  is all about RWB and Blocks!

Loads of blocks - loads of eye candy - loads of fun!!!
If you don't believe me, just take a look at Madame Samm's Pinterest board!!
Yep, I thought you would agree! :)
A great big THANK YOU!! to Madame Samm  and Jane for the time they have given to bring all fellow bloggers such a fun and exciting event!
I have 2 blocks to share today!
The first is...
Cockle Doodle Dandy!!
He comes in strutting his stuff,
all decked out in his red white and blue fluff!
(hey, a poet and I didn't even know it) :)
And I thought it fitting that he have a song!
(tune to Yankee Doodle Dandy)

I'm a Cockle Doodle Dandy
A Cockle Doodle, do or die
A real live rooster - strut-ting my stuff
Born on the Fourth of July!

I've got a Cockle Doodle sweetheart
She's my Cockle Doodle joy
Cockle Doodle came to the barnyard
Just to see the  hens
He is the Cockle Doodle Boy!

I found him in 101 full size Quilt Blocks and Borders

My second block made me think of those sizzling fireworks that you hold in your hand on the 4th!.. and it also reminds me of those white flowers that grow in the yard that you can pick and blow on and all of the little white things go sailing off in the wind!
I took a few liberties with the pattern adding the red stitches to anchor the blue threads and making french knots at the outer edge of every other one.  The button was just too cool to pass up! I cheated and did the embroidery on the seams with my new machine.  I am not sure I like the stitching.  My old machine made larger and better designs. I think I may have to give them back the amount they allowed me for trade and bring it back to my sewing room!
The pattern came from
Grandma's Best Full Size Quilt Blocks!
Well, there is my contribution to the overflowing Pinterest board!
Who Else Is Up Today??
Go check them all out!

Click this Master Schedule link to see past participants and their wonderful Red/White and Blue blocks and tomorrows bloggers for the grande finale!

Thanks a million for allowing me to participate again!

NOW, I am off to Madame Samm's blog to see what all I have been missing!

I have been super busy and blogging has been on hold!
(as you can tell by my absence on my own blog)

I had 1-8 quilters in my home for 14 straight days for a quilting retreat and then 4 days later I left for Alabama for 10 days! I came home with my granddaughter in tow and for the first week we put away peas, peaches and pickles!  Last week I got some longarming and Crazy Quilting in while Allie played on her sewing machine. I will tell you, this old gal ain't what she used to be!  I have been hitting the hay by 10 every night and that IS unusual for me!
But it has been tons of fun!

Let's see... How can I round this post off???

A GIVEAWAY you say!!!

hmmmmm..

How about a jar of my homemade pickle????

I have 5 fresh batches making right now!!  The first 3 batches will be ready by the end of the month!

How about I give away 2 jars..

2 lucky winners!!

I will send out 2 jars of fresh pickles!
(even though last years pickles are still delicious!)

All you have to do is just comment and let me know if you love a good crisp sweet and tart pickle!!!!!!!!

Who knows.. One of these blocks may be in with your pickles!
Either one would make a great pillow!

Remember... No email address in your comment or google profile = no entry...
I need a way to contact you should you win!

Yes, I am up before the chickens this morning.... :)
I am chuckling [or should I say clucking] to myself as I have read your blog....I love your rooster block!Immediately reminded me of my pet rooster I had as a child, none other than Pickle himself! Then upon reading further and learning of your jars of pickles...well let's just say I am very thankful I did not wake up the house!! :D

Cock-A-Doodle Dandy is a beaut! The pickles sound great too, thanks for the fun give-away! Gonna check out the link:@)

Australia is too far for pickle jars but not for a Cock-a-Doodle Dandy. Love all those spots and the hand blanket stitch. Then there is the wind flower love the swirly button embellishment which sets off the straight stitches topped with French knots.

Love both blocks especially the rooster- so send the pickles as another prize. (Oh do I have to confess that I cannot eat a McDonald's Big Mac because of the pickles - are these the same?)

Just became a follower as I am an embroiderer - thread & silk ribbon.

What a fabulous post! I love everything about both blocks, but the Cockle Doodle Dandy song was too cute. Pickles are yummy. I love all kinds except any mushy ones or ones made with really hot peppers. My hubby loves the ones with hot peppers.

Great Rooster, the photo of the pickle brought me back to my childhood when my mom used to put up all kinds of pickles. The kirby cucumbers I planted are becoming history, plants shriveling up so no pickles for me.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Your blocks were fun and the song so cute. I have fond memories of my father's aunt making bread and butter pickles on their ranch in Carpenteria, CA. It is the one thing I have never tried to make. I can eat them on anything or just out of the jar. Thanks for the chance!

I love your blocks!!! Thanks for sharing with us on the blog hop!! No pickles here, thanks - still trying to finish the ones I canned a few years ago...crock dills pickles are wonderful and easy with no heat to make them soft, but my crock is huge and I ended up with too many pickles!!

Terry@ iluvmybugs said...

Adorable blocks...and love me some yummy pickles! Thanks for the chance!

Joyce Carter said...

I love your blocks, especially the last one. It looks like it has a piece of peppermint candy for the center. I have that book so I am going to see if I can find the pattern. I think it would make a great wallhanging. And I definitely LOVE pickles. We eat them all the time just right out of the jar. So having these homemade ones would make my day. Thank you so much for a chance to win them.

Your blocks are even more fun because your personality shines through in their description--your happy enthusiasm is delightful! Yankee Doodle Delicious I say!!
OH, do we love pickles in this house--I think we've gone through about 8 jars so far this summer but there's nothing quite like homemade ones!!

VickiT said...

Both those blocks are beautiful. Wonderful job on both. Thank you for showing us. YUM. Pickles. I love any and all kind of pickles, sweet, bread & butter, dill, hot, all of them.

My Dad's favorite was always the bread & butter so my Mom canned those for him every single summer. When she was gone, I did that for him for the same reason and so he could remember Mom since I used her recipe. She never could get dills the right way and I never tried myself since there were so many horror stories about mushy dills. I haven't made the bread & butter now in over 11 yrs. I actually considered it this year because they are super easy to do. I don't know if my legs would allow me to do it though. They are SO much better than what you can buy in the stores though so I might attempt it. hmmmmm I got rid of all my jars a few years ago though but I did keep all the canning stuff (I HOPE!!)

I would be thrilled with a jar of yours and even a surprise too if lucky enough. Thank you
