I Am Saying No To Word Verification

I want to make it easier for my followers to leave those comments I love to read so I am turning off the word verification on my blog.  I may get some spam but I hope blogger catches the brunt of it.

Connie over at Freemotion By The River has a great post on the subject!  Go over and read what she has to say... I just did and came back and turned mine off!

I am borrowing her photo...

I do not have comment moderation on either because I know how much I enjoy seeing my comments on other people's blogs as soon as I leave them.  I like being able to double check what I just left before I hop over to the next blog. :)

I think word verification is a big turn off to a lot of bloggers so I hope if you have not commented on my blog because of those nasty letters, that you will start leaving more comment love here on PigTalesandQuilts now that it is turned off.

awesome, when I turned mine off (months ago) I'd only get one spam every once in a while and usually on old posts where I can then ignore or publish it.

I just want to make it easier for my readers. I never really thought about it until Gill asked me to turn it off. I did that day and within an hour I had spam so I turned it back on. But I have thought about it ever since and I made the decision to turn it off and leave it off. My readers are important to me. :)

I have sometimes been so frustrated by it that I left the blog without commenting. You can only try so many times before it isn't worth it.
Thanks!

You are so welcome!

I really didn't think about that until Gill brought it to my attention. I am glad I have done it. Only positive can come now. :)

This has been a big talking point among the art quilt list - so most of us have turned off our comment catchas. I mean its easy enough to clear spam away and blogger has been doing a good job of it lately too. It makes it so much easier to leave comments quicky quick. If you do get a lot of spam then you can always refuse anonymous commenters which stops most of them too!

Thanks Nina!

I took mine off but I have alot of spam. I deleted about 50 spam the other day. I was hacked a few months ago and I think I'm still recovering from that. Now, I'm trying the approval before publishing thing. It's working ok but I forget and think I don't have any comments, it's a catch 22...I hate word verification, I just tried to leave a comment on one of the blogs I follow and it took me 5 tries. You would think it wouldn't be so hard, can't they make it a little easier? Anyway, thanks and I hope it works good for you.

I turned mine off a long time ago and am glad I did , it annoys me when I am trying to comment and the letters these days are worse than ever . Thanks for turning yours off :-)

Thanks for spreading the word! Hopefully more people will turn it off and many times people aren't even aware that they have it on!

sure will be able to leave comments again :) I had a good conversation with Connie too a little while ago - I hadn't realised the word verification was on my blog! ... as a blind blogger I have to struggle with the audio challenge and i've sat through a dozen challenges before giving up having failed to get the right long string of words ... In fact I sent a message to the challenge team this morning complaining about the system being a barrier to many people being able to use the internet fully ... we'll see if anybody responds! In the meantime thanks for turning the verification off - hopefully those annoying spammers will leave you alone!

Amen! I recently did a post myself on the word verification. I don't like having to repeatedly trying to get the letters right, and often had to use a magnifying glass to read the numbers. I don't have it and won't use it! I'm going to borrow the button if it's ok, I think everyone should put it on their sidebar.

It will be nice seeing you on the blog once again Giles!

I have always had to reload the images before getting one readable enough to figure out.. I do not know why I didn't think that my readers were going through the same thing here. I am slow... but sure...as my sister says. :)

Thank you for turning off word verification. I don't have a blog but I,too, have wanted to leave comments, but couldn't get past the verification.

Yay!!!!!!! Thank you! Those nasty comment things are such a time waster. I haven't ever had mine on and have very little spam at all. It shows up in the spam file (lots of it!) and I have to delete that fairly regularly but that's about it. I've been meaning to write a post about this for ages, but now I'm just going to link to yours! ThANK YOU!!!!!

Thank you! I hate those things. I tried it for a few days many months ago, and I turned it off also. Now Blogger has made them even harder to figure out. Sometimes I've had to try 6 or 7 times to get it to go through, but I always edit and tell them how hard it was to comment.
I've only had a few spam comments, and blogger caught them so for now, I'm leaving mine as it is!
