I figure most everyone is settling down for a relaxing weekend come Saturday morning so I hope that you will take the time to create a blog post talking about things you have accomplished for the past week in your sewing rooms, share one of your needlework projects, or share your pets.. a good read you think we all might like.. Let us take a sneek peek in to your kitchen and see what is on the stove for the weekend..
I would like to share something I received in the mail this week! I am a crazy quilter and belong to 2 yahoo quilting groups with ladies who share the same passion! In one of the groups called World Wide Crazy Quilting we have been working on a Water Garden Round Robin and I received my blocks back. I am tickled beyond words with the way they turned out!
My theme involved my love of pigs and I asked for them to include some water design on their blocks be it a water fountain, a mud puddle etc.... I also asked for plenty of flowers because I think pigs and flowers just go together! Here are the blocks I received back... I will be putting them together in to a wallhanging! My friend Karen from OK made the background blocks and embroidered the pigs on with her embroidery machine.
This block was stitched by my good friend Nicki who blogs at Raviolee Dreams. I love the bird bath that she stitched and the little gold bird taking a bath in the water that she designed using aqua colored beads! The Cloisonne frog down in the left corner sitting on a lily pad made from a piece of her hand dyed lace is just too cute! The yellow satin ribbon flowers are too cute sitting atop that velvet rick rack! The hand dyed lace motif at the top is the perfect finishing touch for the block!
The next block was stitched by Lauri who has given me an incredibly delightful block that makes me smile every time I look at it! She created a tub using ribbon so that the pig could take a bath!! And would you look at that water spicket! with water hose attached! When I saw the little birdie holding the water hose up over the pig and the shower of water spraying over the pig using metallic thread, I was squealing like a pig myself! I love this! The birdhouse is all stitched by Lauri and is perfect! She also used hand dyed laces to finish off her work! Thank you so much lauri!
Leslie stitched the next block that I am about to show you! She designed a water tub using silk fabric and using hand dyed lace, created the look of water splashing up and out of the tub! Those sunflowers are fabulous as well as the bees! I must learn that stitch for my work! She also gave me a birdhouse to finish off her work on this block!
This block was stitched by Janet who told me in her notes that although her work did not include a water element, that you could not have flowers without water and I agree with her. The 3-D butterfly that she designed with fabric is so cute! She found some hand dyed lace flowers and laid them down on the block with tiny pink seed bead centers. The lace that she used to frame the pig is so pretty... I would love to find some of that myself! She laid down some hand dyed lace behind the roses and then hand stitched some yellow flowers to finish off her work.
Janet also stitched this block for me because another of the members passed it over to her. In this block she did include a water puddle using a beautiful blue shiny fabric! The cutest little frog is sitting there waiting for the pig to jump in and make a bis splash so he can get wet! She created another 3-D butterfly and put it on the pigs back... we have all heard the expression "The Flying Pig". I love it! The tree she stitched is fabulous and all of the flowers on the ground are too! To finish off her work she added a piece of lace in the upper right corner to depict the sun shining down on the pig! Such a delightful block!
The last block has been stitched by Maire. Although there is very little stitching on the block she has given me beautiful hand dyed laces! She knows how well I love hand dyed lace! She finished off her work by laying down some clear seed beads scattered across the block. (I was unable to find a blog for Maire to link to)
