Pat! from Life In The Scrap Patch!
Well, my computer had to go to the doctor this morning! I have been getting an error message for a week or so, something about scripps running on my pages. I kept closing the box over and over and I guess my computer finally rebelled. I tried setting up this post until almost midnight last night but my photos kept acting as if they were loading but then nothing would be there to choose from. So I got up early this morning to try again and the computer froze up completely! So off to town we went and I had a trojan! I wish more people quilted... Then maybe they wouldn't have enough time on their hands to sit around and create viruses to wreck havoc on us! arggg... Enough of that though...
I want to thank Madame Samm and Marlene of Stitching By The Lake for such a fun blog hop! And let us not forget Amy Bradley who made it possible that we all have this fabulous pattern!!
I was so excited when my idea finally sparked about how I wanted to create my piece for the hop... I posted a couple of years ago about my mother in law's fantastic find in her attic. I lost my blog after that to the great unknown and did not realize that I had not re-posted about it. She found these fabulous salesman samples that had been given to her mother many years ago! Can we say VINTAGE!!! If you look really close you can see they are pinked all the way around the edges. I would say that maybe Layer Cakes were cool when they didn't even know to call them a layer cake. These measure 10" square. There were close to 100 of these beauties in all!
So, I decided that instead of being a little biased... I would be a little antique... ha! .. And as we all know... When we are a little antique, we can wear any and all colors together and wear big flowers in our hair cause it doesn't matter. We just wanna' have fun!
All of the fabrics that went in to creating my piece were cut from the vintage fabric squares! I sewed 2 pieces together to get my background and used another piece for the borders. Her dress, sunglasses, hair, hand and face are all vintage fabrics! I hope you love her as much as I do!
Here is a close up... Don't look at my embroidery too closely.. I am not the brightest student when it comes to embroidery! I quilted around her body and around the borders, stitching in the ditch, and then put a back on it and sewed it in the pillowcase method. Now it is ready for some fluffy stuffing and to be made in to a pillow!
Do you love vintage anything??? I am going to give this cutie away to one of my blog readers. Just be sure and leave me a comment to be entered. If you are a no-reply blogger, be sure to leave your email in your comment.
Before I close I wanted to show you what I am doing with the vintage squares.. I am bordering them with solid white fabric and then sashing them together with solid black. This way the entire piece of vintage fabric is showcased. I will have about 7 quilts in various sizes when I finish with the.
Here is the entire list of bloggers participating in this fun hop! Be sure to check out the blogs today that are sharing the limelight with me. Then don't forget to come back and check out the other bloggers as their day arrives!

ReplyDeleteI don't know what is worse, no computer or no sewing machine! Thank God I have a back-up sewing machine or I'd be bored to death. Love your quilt with the vintage squares. I have been re-organizing my sewing porch getting ready for a move, so I have lots of vintage(old) fabric that I have to use so my husband doesn't make me give it away or throw it out! Some men don't appreciate fabric. I don't collect shoes, pricey knick-knacks or expensive jewelry like other women I see on TV. So how do I make a case for keeping my stash? I love your It's all about me version of AB's pattern. She sure has a way of incorporating humor in her designs. I did a cat artist a while back for a colleague. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI like you went 'antique' with your hanging. What a tremendous find on your part.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you are using them as the focus in your quilts! Thanks for sharing.
