Have you all missed me? I have been on a 2 week vacation to Alabama! I took my granddaughter home and stayed to visit with my family for 10 days and then went over to Tupelo, MS to visit a quilting buddy. My friend Elizabeth flew down from Massachusetts to ride with me and I wanted to show her where I grew up and lived for the first 42 years of my life. I also wanted to take her to Mississippi so she could visit Claude Wilemon, aka "The Rag Man"! To read all about Claude, go to this post.
I did not have a lot of internet access so I have not had time to keep up with the hop as usual so I have missed commenting on everyone's projects. I took a quick peek each morning before we had to get going each day but that was all I had time for. I will be around by the end of the week though to leave you all some comment love.
So, what do I have to share with you all today? I started thinking about ideas for the hop but my mind kept going to a UFO that I have been working on a little bit here, a little bit there... and so I got it out and made up my mind to get it finished. This is my on-going Hippie Flower Garden quilt that I started eons ago! I am so happy that it now has its borders on! I wanted to get it quilted and had all plans to "IF" if had come home from Alabama in its current state of being a finished quilt top ready for quilting...
oh well... It has helped me decide that since I have done so much handwork on this puppy... that I am going to HAND QUILT it!! YEA BABY!! I have been threatening to hand quilt something small and this is going to be my first hand quilting job since 2006 when carpal tunnel made me put away the hand quilting frames! I promise to show photos of it once it is finished!
This Grandmother's Flower Garden was made by my great aunt, Callie Greenhill. It was given to my mother many years ago and then handed down to me for a Christmas present in 2000. She made groups of 3 flower units and then blanket stitched them on to a larger hexagon background square, adding leaves. I love this quilt and will cherish it forever!
Now, if you would love to see lots more hexie inspiration, just head on over to these bloggers who share the day with me!
Thank you for visiting my blog today and for those of you who came early and have returned, thank you for your patience!
