The Act of Giving

I am participating in the Twas The Night Blog Hop and now I get to share with you what I made!  But first I need to thank Madame Samm and Marlene for their work in keeping us all organized and on our toes!  Thank you ladies for allowing us all to come together and have some fun!

One of the ideas behind the swap was to make things that did not require a lot of time that you could gift to others during the Christmas holiday.  We were also to make something for the person under us in the hop and send to them in time for them to showcase their gift on their blog.  I mailed to GmamaJane in Alabama, my home state!  I was so proud to send a package to Dixieland!  You will have to check out Jane's blog and see what she received from me.

I received my gifts from a special lady who blogs at Lovin' Life At The End Of The Dirt Road.  I do not buy a wreath to hang on my door so this gift was an extra special treat!  Only one other year did I have a wreath and my friend from Maine sent it to me and hubby. Thank you thank you!

She also sent a drawstring bag that she made that was full of chocolate Hershey Kisses.  The bag does NOT have chocolate in it any longer.. my hubby ate it all... and that is my story and I am sticking to it! ha!   She also sent me a fabric sucker and also a snowflake ornament for my birthday.  Yes, today is my birthday!!  Happy Birthday to me!

Thank you so very much for all of my gifts!

So, now on to what I made for the hop.  First up is a caddy to have beside your machine when you are sewing.  It has pockets for your Omnigrid ruler, scissors, small ruler, rotary cutter, eye glass cleaners or whatever you want to put in the pockets. It also has a matching pincushion that is stuffed with crushed walnut shells for weight.

Isn't this fabric fabulous for this type of sewing organizer!  I bought this at the Decorator Fabric store in Raleigh, NC!  I love it!

And the matching pincushion dressed up with rick rack and lace.

If you want a fun pincushion to gift to your sewing buddy how about Mr. Hoot himself.  Felt pieces makes him go together fast as lightning as you do not have to worry about turning under any edges!  Isn't he darling!

And how about some felt coasters.  These whipped up in under 30 minutes and would be perfect for anyone on your list. I cut the heart opening out of the top piece of felt and sandwiched a piece of red cotton fabric between the top felt piece and a solid piece of felt for the back and blanket stitched around the heart opening.  I then quilted a long stitch around the outer edge of the heart and sewed the outer edges with a straight stitch on the machine.  I pinked the edges up to the line of stitching to finish them off.

This little basket whipped up in about an hour.  It actually took longer to get this little thing turned right side out than it did to sew it together. :)   I cut the shape out of quilting fabric and machine quilted it to a rather stiff piece of fusible. I then sewed a coordinating piece of fabric all the way around, left an opening for turning and then slip stitched the opening shut.  I brought the sides together and added vintage buttons all around and finished the top edges off with lace.  This little basket will hold most anything you wish to gift to someone.

Candy was my idea! :)

Here it is empty.

I also have another project started but it isn't something that can be done quickly.  I wanted to show it to you though so I could shout out this wonderful hoop that I just purchased from Harry Barnett of Lap Top Hoops!  I think a lot of people use these for cross stitching but these frames are so versatile!  I am doing blanket stitch in mine!  This is the 12" Flip Top Square Frame and I have an 8" round hoop on order as well.  I am going to love using this frame as it frees up my arm from holding a regular round hoop.

Here are all of my creations together!

I do hope she likes it and will enjoy!

Happy birthday to you! Great hop. Sew many great ideas. Love your new mugs too and that wreath is awesome!! The best part of Christmas is the children. Grandchildren now...and new year's eve, we don't celebrate anymore. I usually have to work either new year's eve or new year's day, sometimes both. If the neighborhood fireworks wake us, we will say happy new year, then back to sleep.

Happy Birthday! My favorite part of Christmas is spending time with family. We don't generally do much that's exciting for the New Year, but this year we will get to be with our grown son who lives 900 miles away so that's a treat!

Happy, happy birthday Thearica! I love your sweet gift - that embroidered ornament looks just like lace! I've ordered a Barnett hoop but it's not here yet so I'm patiently waiting. :) My favorite thing about Christmas would have to be the children. Their faces make all the working worth everything we do. But by New Year's Eve I'm done! We don't go out and in fact, we don't even stay in. I'm in bed by 10:00 and asleep by 10:01! blessings, marlene

My favorite part of Christmas is always kids. Anybody's kids. I love to watch them at parades, bazaars, tree lighting events. Their eyes are so filled with wonder. I love it.
New Year's Eve is spent at home. Trying to keep everyone awake until the ball drops. :) Then kissing everyone and telling them I love them to start the year off right.
Thank you for sharing these cute ideas. Enjoy your Birthday and your holidays.

Happy Birthday! Love all your creations and will be trying a few myself. My favorite part of Christmas is watching the wonder of it all through the grandkids eyes, and for New Years we babysit the grandkids and have a sleepover, so by the stroke of midnight I am more than ready for bed!

Happy birthday, Thearica. I think the sewing table organizer is such a great idea. I am always loosing things behind the table. Our Christmas is always busy and fun with the whole family here. It is a wonderful time of the year, but I have to say that we are duds on New Years. We watch the ball fall in NY (9p.m. here) and go to bed. Then I am up early to watch the Rose Parade here.

I love to go to church on Christmas morning!!! Not too many churches have services anymore on Christmas morning, but if you find Dutch immigrants anywhere, there is a pretty good chance you will find a church on Christmas morning! As for New Years, well, I am always up after midnight every night, so New Years Eve is really not very special. Hubby is always in bed at 9, so there is no champagne or kisses. When I was young, we went to Grama's house on New Years Day and she had olieballen/vetballen, a typical New Year's fried donut hole in Holland. I love the raisin ones best. Someday maybe I will make the too, but the frying smells up the house for weeks!

My favorite part of Christmas is making gifts for friends and family as I reflect on the reason for the season!! Also spending time with our family.

On New Years Eve, we like to stay home by the fire and wait for the New Year to begin!! Happy Birthday to YOU!!!!!

What a enjoyable post. I like all your gift projects but the basket was my favorite. Everything about it was just right. My favorite part of Christmas is early in the morning before anyone is up, lighting the tree and sitting and drinking a cup of coffee while thinking of all that went on through the year. The blessings and making it through the tough times and thanking God. By New Years I'm exhausted and usually just go to bed, the next morning I'm grateful for a new year and new beginnings.

New Years - when we were young we used to have people over and stay up late but now that we are in our 50s, we have slowed down a lot. We will get out some chips and dip, watch old movies and if we're still awake, turn on the New Years celebration on tv- Eastern time even though we are Central. It lets us go to sleep a bit earlier! LOL

Christmas- my favorite part is when everyone has gone to bed on Christmas Eve and I am alone in the darkened living room lit by only the Christmas Tree. It is so quiet and peaceful

Happy Birthday! The first and foremost special thing about Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior. The second is time spent with our family. Our 3 girls married and live in AL, VA, and CA, so we try to spend Christmas with at least one of them and their families. Being retired, we are the ones to travel. This year we are in VA. For New Years we use to go out to eat with friends. When we were doing ballroom dancing several years ago (when we could still do it), some years we went to a ball. One year our Bible study group had a family sleep over that was lots of fun. Now we enjoy quiet evenings at home watching TV or a movie and go to bed early to get our beauty sleep:) This year we will be in AL, and will be watching the University of Alabama football game with that part of our clan. Nancy A: rangerer@sbcglobal.net
